Mice Feast On Currency Notes Worth Rs 12 Lakh In SBI ATM In Assam

Mice are such pesky little creatures that you can find them anywhere and at anytime, creating nothing but nuisance. Just like they did inside an ATM in Assam.

The colony of mice struck a State Bank of India (SBI) ATM in Assam’s Tinsukia district and shredded currency notes worth Rs 12 lakh.

The ATM had been shut due to technical failure since May 20. But little did anyone know that behind the shut ATM, the mice were having a feast of their own. On June 11, when technicians visited the ATM to fix the machine, they were shocked to find Rs 500 and Rs 2,000 currency notes torn into pieces.

According to SBI officials, notes worth Rs 12,38,000 are believed to have been completely destroyed. A Guwahati-based financial company, FIS: Global Business Solutions runs the ATM. The company had reportedly deposited Rs 29 lakhs into the ATM on May 19. “The ATM had stopped working the following day,” a local Tinsukia-based journalist reportedly confirmed.

A bank official confirmed to a local news channel that around Rs 17 lakh were saved from the carnage.

A police complaint is registered with the local police station in Tinusukia. “May 20 and June 11 is a significant period of time for an ATM to be out of service. People are suspicious as to why it took so long for the mechanics to arrive” said a local.
