Vehicle enters Hyderabad runway. IndiGo pilots stop takeoff just in time

180 passengers onboard an IndiGo Airlines flight from Hyderabad to Goa encountered a narrow escape, thanks to the presence of mind of the pilot who applied the brakes immediately he spotted a vehicle on the runway.

The incident happened at Hyderabad's Rajiv Gandhi International Airport on Tuesday, as the flight 6E743, bound for Goa was about to take off when the pilot noticed a vehicle on the runway. The pilot of the Airbus A320 applied the emergency brakes and averted a major disaster.

Following the incident, the DGCA has initiated a probe into the matter.

“The reported incident is being examined by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation. Findings of the investigation are awaited, based on which the reason for this incident can be ascertained,” a GHIAL spokesperson said.

Tuesday's incident in Hyderabad is the latest in a series of mishaps involving air travel.

Last month, Jet Airways was left red-faced after some 30 passengers onboard developed bleeding from ears and nose, because the crew forgot to maintain the cabin pressure.

In September itself there was another mid-air security scare after a passenger entered the cockpit to charge his mobile phone. There was also a recent incident where a passenger tried to open the door of a flight mistaking it to be the washroom.
