In a shocking revelation which came to light on Sunday, a senior Waqf Board official clandestinely sold off a five-acre Waqf property in Malkajgiri, worth over Rs 100 crore at a throwaway price of just Rs 35 lakh. The deal took place in May 2017.
The Telangana State Waqf Board is mulling over demanding a CID inquiry into the deal. The parcel of land, spread over five acres, belongs to Mir Mahmood Pahadi, Attapur.
The no-objection certificate (NOC) was issued by MA Mannan Farooqui the then chief executive officer (CEO) of the Waqf Board in favour of a private person. It is alleged that he took Rs 35 lakh bribe to issue the NOC while another Rs10 lakh was given to a middleman in the deal.
Waqf Board chairman Mohammad Saleem told that a complaint was lodged at the Abids police station. The Board would also request the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) to probe the scam. Chief Minister will be requested to conduct a CID probe into all NOCs issued since 1956.
