1-year-old girl dies after father forgets her in hot car

A newly adopted 1-year-old girl died after her father forgot her in a family car in blazing heat.
The father, Matt Barker, dropped off her sibling at a daycare between 7:30 am and 8:00am on Wednesday, but forgot about the child, Katera, in the vehicle, Metro Nashville police said.

The man came back home, oblivious about the girl left in the car. He then took a ride-sharing service to the airport and flew out of town for a business trip, according to local media reports.

The mother, Jenny Barker, later drove to the daycare to collect her children. There, the staff told her that Katera didn't come to the centre that day.

Jenny called up Matt and it was then that they realised the horrible lapse. The mother discovered the child around 5:40pm in a car seat inside the family vehicle parked outside their home, Mailonline reported.

She was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

No charges have been filed against anyone till Thursday afternoon. Investigations are still on.
