Signmund Freud, the father of modern psychiatry, once shocked the world with his theories regarding human sexuality. In particular, he had the bright idea that our culture is replete with phallic imagery: subconscious symbols and structures that resemble the male organ. But even Freud himself admitted that "sometimes a cigar is just a cigar" e.g. not everything looks like a d*ck. Even still, there are plenty of people out there, particularly overly-sensitive prudes, who seem to have neglected that last part.
On the internet, Facebook is often guilty of some pretty bizarre censorship, and it's become something of a joke on social media that nobody quite understands what constitutes a violation of community guidelines. People have had all kinds of content deleted or removed because somebody got bent out of shape about it. But this week, one Facebook-user was shocked to discover that Zuckerberg's cronies had removed a picture of him and his newborn bald puppy... because apparently, the dog looked too much like a boner. Yup, I'm afraid you read that last part right.
The hilarious picture was taken by Filipino teenager Dominic Ibaos, and shows him holding a tiny hairless puppy, with his bald body and wrinkled neck displayed prominently. Unfortunately, someone on Facebook mistook the image as a penis, and promptly reported it as an indecent image.
Dominic was then notified by Facebook that his photo of the dog has been removed for violating the terms of their community standards. Luckily, Dominic was able to see the funny side of the situation, and shared the Facebook notification he received on Twitter. The post quickly earned him over 60,000 retweets, likes and shares.
Commenting on the hilarious censorship, Dominic stated: "It’s really hard for me to see the penis perspective because when I look at it I always just see the puppy. I got a notification saying it had been blocked a few minutes after I posted it to the group. At that time I didn’t realise it looked like a penis because when I first posted it to Facebook all I saw was a photograph of an innocent puppy. It actually made me really angry for a moment, but I feel better about it now because people find it hilarious."
He added, "I find it really funny that it’s causing all this attention because it looks like a penis, yet the photo is something I can keep sharing because it’s also not. It just makes me happy that people find it so funny. One person told me it was the best laugh they’d had for weeks."
For those who are disconcerted by the puppy's appearance, it should be noted that the dog belongs to the rare Xoloitzcuintli breed, which explains the confusion. Luckily, Dominic's original image has since been reposted on Facebook, and now you can see it in all its glory, although why you'd want to is beyond me ...
