Kohli hits 30th ton, only behind Tendulkar on most ODI-hundreds

Indian skipper Virat Kohli slammed his 30th ODI century against Sri Lanka today. He reached the milestone in his 186th innings, making him the fastest player to reach this feat.

With this century, he is joint-second along with Ricky Ponting on the list of most ODI centuries.

Kohli is now behind Sachin Tendulkar who scored 49 tons in his 24 years long career.

9 years of Kohli and his incredible records

It was exactly nine years ago today that Virat Kohli made his debut in international cricket.

From a young 19-year-old aggressive batsman to a complete batsman and a prolific captain, Kohli has come a long way.

Over the years, the world number 1 ODI batsman has broken and created several records.

Here we take a look at some of his incredible records.

An average of over 50 in all three formats

Kohli's dominance in limited overs cricket has never been in question. After the initial phase of his career, his record looked somewhat blemished in tests.

Since then, though, he has come a long way.

Last month, during the Test against Sri Lanka, Kohli's average crossed the 50-mark, thus making him the first batsman to boast a 50-up average in all three-formats of the game.

Fastest to 8000 runs in ODIs

When it comes to limited overs cricket, Kohli's run-scoring feats are second to none.

And, when he became the fastest batsman to have scored 8000 runs in ODIs, in only 175 innings (183 matches), it did not come as a surprise.

The previous record was held by AB De Villiers from 182 innings but there was never a doubt that Kohli would break it.

Highest number of centuries while chasing in ODIs

Kohli has been emulating the Master Blaster's records right and left ever since he made his mark in international cricket.

The 28-year-old recently broke Tendulkar's record of most centuries while chasing in ODIs, when he brought up his 28th century against West Indies last month. It was his 18th century while chasing, thus surpassing Tendulkar's 17.

IPL 2016
Most runs by any player in a T20 tournament

While he holds most batting records in international cricket, Kohli also boasts the record for most runs in a T20 tournament in the world.

In the 2016 Indian Premier League, the Indian captain scored 983 runs in just 16 matches at an average of 81.08.

Rewriting the scales of consistency, he notched up four terrific centuries and five half-centuries during the tournament.

Four double hundreds in consecutive Test series

As he brought up his fourth double century in the one-off Test against Bangladesh last year, Kohli etched his name in the record books by becoming the first to score four double centuries in four consecutive Test series.

He started with his maiden double century against West Indies and then he went past Don Bradman and Rahul Dravid, both of whom have three.

Highest Test score by an Indian captain

Kohli's 235 against England, which is also his highest individual score, is the highest Test score by any Indian captain.

MS Dhoni previously held the record but his 212 was never going to be too high for Kohli.

2016 was Kohli's year and the pinnacle of that year was the double century against England, a spectacular innings consisting of 25 boundaries and a six.
