British boy, 12, thrown 30ft after being hit by plane engine blast on beach

A British schoolboy has been left seriously injured after being thrown more than 32ft by the engine of an Airbus 320.

The 12-year-old is said to have been standing outside Skiathos Airport with his dad watching the planes take off when the incident happened.

A gust of wind from the engine is believed to have lifted the boy as he watched the London-bound TUI aircraft fly just feet above his head.

He narrowly missed rocks and landed 10 metres away on the sand, which experts say saved his life. The boy was taken by ambulance to the Skiathos Health Centre where a full checkup was carried out.

Medics have confirmed that the boy was given emergency first aid before being transferred to the Achilopouleio Hospital of Volos for further treatment. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening. Experts have warned of the danger of standing so close to airport runways, saying the incident could just as easily have had deadly consequences.
