Bavarian Minister-President Chairman of the Christian Social Union (CSU) Horst Seehofer said that he expects that the migration wave sweeping across Germany will continue.

The migration wave in Germany will continue, the best way to solve the situation is to help the refugees in their home countries, Seehofer said Sunday in an interview with Welt am Sonntag newspaper.

"Right now the situation is quiet. But we all know: the migration wave will continue. The most accurate way to solve it would be to help the refugees in their homelands. Or, at the very least, we have to carry out checks at the EU borders in order to clarify who qualifies for protection and who does not," Seehofer said.

He reiterated his demand to introduce the upper limit for the number of new refugees Germany can accept.
"We are of the opinion that Germany cannot sustain more than 200,000 refugees annually so that their integration was possible," he said, adding that it is very hard to send refugees that just arrived in Germany back to their homeland, even if they do not qualify for asylum.

In this case, the upper limit for the refugees’ number could help, because the number of migrants coming to Germany will not be "too large," Seehofer explained.

Germany became one of the key destinations for migrants coming to Europe from the Middle East and North Africa after declaring an open-door refugee policy in 2015. According to the country's Interior Ministry, over 890,000 refugees arrived in Germany in 2015, compared to 280,000 that arrived next year.
