In the recent episode of GMA’s Imbestigador, a deaf-mute woman was s*xually abused.

Monica’s disability began being noticed when she was a child. In spite of this, her parents raised her like everyone else. But due to her family’s financial difficulties, she only reached the third grade. Even so, she didn’t stop helping her mother from selling vegetables.

Monica is the fifth in the brood of five. Among all her siblings, it was her elder sister Rowena who loves and takes care of her dearly even now that she has her own family.

It was an annual festivity in the town when the Joel, Monica and Rowena’s older brother, prepared food to take part in the said occasion. However, amid the festivity, a man entered the room where Monica was sleeping. It was around four in the afternoon when Rowena decided to change her clothes. But when she reached the door, she was surprised when the room was locked.

“Actually, walang lock ‘yong pintuan eh. May inipit s’yang damit na hindi ko maitulak,” Rowena told Imbestigador.

Through the door slit, she saw a man on top of a woman. What shook her when she realized that the woman was Monica. Rowena didn’t know what to do at first, but then she decided to knock the door loudly so that the man would stop his malicious deed. But he didn’t stop. When she knocked again, the man then stood up and clothed himself. Monica then came out of the room, pale and full of sweat. Rowena kept her calm and led Monica to their house.

A few moments later, Rowena went back in front of the door and raged.

“Sinigawan ko siya ng ‘Lumabas ka diyan. Hayop ka!’ Nag-react ‘yong mga nakakakita sa’kin, bakit daw nanggigigil ako or [bakit] mainit daw ‘yong ulo ko. Nagulat ‘yong mga nag-iinuman sa harap ng bahay,” Rowena said.

Their older brother then came to the rescue. Upon knowing the incident, her brother and a few of his company crashed the door and beat up the man who was in the room. Shockingly, there was another man who was involved in the crime committed. Rowena told Imbestigador that she saw the other man outside taking a shot of the alcohol, simply walking out of the scene.

The other man was chased after by Rowena’s brother, her husband, and a few other men until they reached the fish pond. He was then caught.

The family of Monica went to the barangay office. The two culprits were already held there. Sonia, Monica’s mother, bawled upon knowing what happened to her daughter. Despite her disability, Monica narrated the incident using her doll and confirmed that it was Lawrence Simbul who abused her. Lawrence is now facing a life imprisonment.
