The polycystic ovary syndrome is an endocrine condition that is caused by an increased level of androgens or male hormones in women. It is a hormonal disorder that causes enlarged ovaries and small cysts. Both genetic and environmental factors contribute to this increase in the hormone levels. According to research, about 2 to 20 % of the female population between the age of 18-44 are affected by PCOS.

This condition also represents a risk factor for some diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, sleep apnea, and some types of cancer.

Symptoms of PCOS:

The disease has a wide range of symptoms that are similar to other diseases, which means that it is often difficult for doctors to diagnose it.

Women with PCOS usually have trouble with their menstrual cycles. Sometimes, it can even stop your menstruation from occurring at all.

 

Unusual weight gain is also a symptom of PCOS.

PCOS causes hormonal imbalance due to which your body start storing excess fat especially, around the mid-section of your body. Women with PCOS will also have difficulty losing weight.
