Meet President Duterte’s Cabinet Ministers

The current President of the Republic of the Philippines is Rodrigo Duterte. The 72-year-old is the first person to be elected to the post of President from Mindanao and is the 16th President of the Republic of the Philippines. He is also the oldest person to become President of the Republic of the Philippines. Duterte took his oath at the Rizal Hall of Malacanang Palace along with his cabinet ministers. Here are some of his most important cabinet ministers who help him run the country efficiently.

Salvador Medialdea
His official position is of Executive Secretary. He is a childhood friend of Duterte and is also part of the Duterte presidential transition committee. He studied law at the San Beda College in 1976. He began his law career at Angara Concepcion Regala & Cruz Law Office. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees, San Beda Law Alumni Association.

 

Perfecto Yasay
Yasay is the Foreign Affairs Secretary in the Duterte administration. He and Duterte came to know each other when they were roommates at the University of the Philippines. He has multiple degrees but his most recent one is the Bachelor of Laws, University of the Philippines, 1972. He served as the Chairman of Securities and Exchange Commission from July 1995 to March 2000. He has held top-level positions at various companies in the Philippines as well as in New York.

Carlos Dominguez III
Dominguez is the Finance Secretary, it is a highly critical position in any nation. He is a childhood friend and also a former classmate of Duterte. He took charge of being the finance head during the 2016 Philippine elections. He holds a degree from the Stanford University Executive Program and has held various important posts throughout his career. He currently sits on the board of members at RCBC Capital Corporation and also Lafayette Philippines Inc.

Vitaliano Aguirre
Aguirre is the Justice Secretary in the Duterte administration. He was a classmate and fraternity brother at San Beda College of Law. When late Chief Justice, Renato Corona was on trial for impeachment, Aguirre was a member of the defense panel in 2012.

Emmanuel Pinol
Pinol is the Agriculture Secretary. He has been a long time political friend of Duterte and was also a member of the “Duterte for President” movement. While holding many degrees, Pinol’s most recent one was a Master of Science in Rural and Economic Development, University of Southern Mindanao, 2008. He has held various posts in the Philippine government throughout his career and served as Vice Governor in North Cotabato from 2007 to 2009. His career started very differently as he was a boxing commentator for Tempo Newspaper till 1990.

Mark Villar
He takes care of infrastructural projects in the country and serves in the cabinet as Public Works Secretary. His father is Manny Villar, president of the Nacionalista Party. He studied in America and has a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He has also held high posts such as Managing Director, Vista Land and Lifescapes Inc.

Leonor Briones
One of the most qualified members of Deterte’s cabinet, she is the Education Secretary. She served as National Treasurer from August 1998 to February 2001. She is the founder of the Freedom and Debt Coalition and has also held high-level posts as Independent Director, Megawide Construction Corporation.
