58,164 expired work permits cancelled – Stayed outside Kuwait for more then 6 mnts

Kuwait: Public Authority for Manpower (PAM), in line with the governmental procedures for organizing the labor market and calculating the number of residency violators, has cancelled about 58,164 work permits that were recorded under PAM as expired because the residence permits of those individuals had expired when they stayed outside Kuwait for more than six months.

Deputy Director General for Recruitment Affairs at PAM Hassan Al-Khedr explained that the work permits were cancelled after confirming the relevant information with Ministry of Interior.

The action is based on article 35 of the regulations’ decree for organizing the issuance of work permits in line with decision No. 552/2018. According to the decree, PAM has the right to cancel the work permits automatically for a number of cases including overstay of the expatriate outside Kuwait for six continuous months unless he has permission from the Residency Affairs Department, or when the residence permit of the expatriate expires while he is outside Kuwait, or when an expatriate is deported for any reason. The employer in such cases is obligated to pay the relevant fees.
