Qatari employment, working hours, recruitment

Qatar Labor Law: Rules and regulations which includes legal rights, restrictions and obligations of workers, employers and workers committees. Everyone should follow this rule. 

Qatari Employment: First priority in employment is always given for Qatari Citizens. The Ministry of Administrative Development, Labor and Social ِAffairs provides various services to match employers with available talent. Qatari citizens should register in the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labor and Social ِAffairs if they don't have a job and looking out for a job. Ministry will help the citizens to get the jobs. 

Employers should get the permision from the government if they wish to hire an employee who is a non-Qatari. 

Recruitment: Non-Qataris can work in Qatar under different employers. An employee can work in the same company for maximum of 5 years if the contract is undefined. If an employee completes the contract, he/she can change the employer. 

If the contract is undefined, the approval of the current employer on moving to work for another employer is required if the expatriate is seeking to terminate the current contract without completing its term or the five years period. 

 

Working Hours: Maximum working hours per week is 48 hours. Overtime pay will not be paid for this. In Ramdan season, the maximum working hours per week is 36  hours. An employee can take one day rest apart from friday as Friday is the common week off. 

Workers Committes: Qatari workers can form workers committees. Employees are allowed to make strikes  as long as they follow the rules of the Labor Law.
