Ankit Tiwari, Akruti Kakkar and Shilpa Rao booked for taking Rs30 lakh to perform at US event, failing to show up

Earlier this month, police filed three cases against four people, including three singers — Ankit Tiwari, Akruti Kakkar and Shilpa Rao — for failing to perform at a show in the United States despite collecting a fee.

Shilpa’s representative has said there is no truth to these allegations. “The claims made by the complainant have no truth to them,” she said.

The Oshiwara police said the three singers were slated to perform at the show last year and had accepted an advance payment of Rs30 lakh from the firm Deep VIP Travels.

The amount was allegedly deposited in their individual bank accounts. After they failed to show up, the firm approached the Andheri magistrate court, alleging criminal breach of trust.

The court then ordered the Oshiwara police to file a case under section 406 (punishment for criminal breach of trust) of the Indian Penal Code and investigate.

The FIR registered against Ankit lists his brother, Ankur Tiwari, as an accused. The two jointly run a private company.

“We will send summons to the accused and ask them to come to the station so we can record their statements. We will present their statements before the court. If they fail to respond within a stipulated period, then we will write to the magistrate court, seeking permission to trace and arrest them,” said an officer at the Oshiwara police station, who is privy to the investigation.

Ankur and Ankit refuted the allegations against them. “We do not know the person who filed the complaint as we have never met him in our entire life,” they told HT.
