Baby boy accidentally dropped to his death after grandma lost footing on escalator

A horrifying video shared by New China TV showed a baby boy was accidentally dropped to his death after his grandmother who carries him lost her footing and stumbled on a department store escalator in China.

The Sun said the tragic incident took place Friday afternoon, November 11, around 2:30 p.m. on the third floor escalator going down to second floor of the Wu Yue Plaza department store in the Qingpu district of Shanghai.

The footage from the store’s CCTV shows the grandmother with the 4-month old baby boy in her arms losing her balance as she stepped onto an escalator going down. She staggered to the side of the escalator and lost her grip on her grandson and dropped him over the side of the moving staircase.

The grandmother tried to grab back her grandson, but it was too late.

The boy’s mother was walking behind with her daughter when the tragic incident happened. She was seen dashing down the escalator to reach her son.

Mall staff called paramedics and rushed the baby boy to a hospital where he later died.
