Halloween, that one night each year when both children and adults dress to scare. Whether or not we celebrate it, we all know that it can be one of the most fun events of the year. All over the world now children look forward to the chance to cry out, “Trick or treat!” and go home with a big collection of sweets.
Like so many others little 4-year-old Caylinn Richards had eagerly awaited the opportunity to dress up and go trick-or-treating with her friends. But something else was in store for her.
On her way home to get her costume, she was attacked by a neighbor’s dog. She was rushed home with a nasty cut on her face and no time to think about Halloween. But when she woke up the next day and realized she’d missed everything, poor Caylinn couldn’t have been more disappointed.
No costume! No knocking on neighbors' doors! No candy! Her distress inspired the whole neighborhood: they decided to take action. They were going to re-do Halloween, just for Caylinn.
Caylinn’s parents dressed her up in her devil costume and off she went, from one neighbor to the next collecting sweets and treats. She could not have been more thrilled!
Her parents didn’t bring charges against the neighbor and his dog, since the dog is in quarantine. And anyway, their little girl is all smiles again! This neighborhood deserves a big round of applause. It doesn’t take much more than a little neighborly attention to generate a whole lot of happiness! ;-)
