Body of Missing Filipina Waitress in Oman Found; Suspects Detained

The remains of a Filipina waitress earlier reported by her employer as missing was found dumped in a wadi behind the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque on Friday.
Pinky Pamittan was reported missing Thursday by Qurum hotel in Muscat, where she has a job as a waitress, after she failed to report for work for two days.

The Royal Oman Police detained a number of men suspected in the involvement of sexual assault and murder of the Filipina.

According to Times of Oman, “More than one, maybe three” men have been arrested in connection with her death, according to police.

“She was found on Friday and was working as a waitress in a hotel restaurant. So far we don’t know the cause of death, but her body is in the morgue. Initial reports suggest that she was kidnapped and raped.”

An ROP spokesman said the incident probably took place on Wednesday after the hotel management reported a missing person on Thursday.
Pamittan, who was to turn 32 on November 6, is married and has a son in the Philippines.

Speaking from her home in Amman, Jordan, Pinky’s mother Alice Pamittan, said she is coming to Oman to get details of her daughter’s death and the case against the accused.

“I hope her case will solve as soon as possible. I’m coming there,” she said.

Stunned friends posted on social media using #JusticeforPinky hashtag calling for media support to highlight her case.

Officials at the Philippine Embassy in Muscat has reminded the Filipino community in Oman to refrain from commenting the case via social media until the police investigation is concluded.
