BSP reminds OFWs to change old peso bills

Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) who registered their old series bank notes online have until the end of December to exchange them for the new ones, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Deputy Governor Diwa Guinigundo said in an interview with ABS-CBN News on Tuesday.

For the rest of the public, BSP said that the Friday, June 30, 2017 deadline to exchange old peso bills is final.

Old bank notes can be swapped for new series bank notes at authorized agent banks as well as municipal, city, and provincial treasurers’ offices.

The old bills will lose their value on Saturday, July 1, 2017.

“Souvenir na lang po iyan na kung sinumang may hawak pa niyan,” Guinigundo said.
(That will only serve as souvenirs to owners.)

The deadline for the demonetization was extended three times due to public clamor.
Originally, the deadline for exchanging the old peso bills was on January 1, 2017 but was extended to March 31, 2917 and again to June 30, 2017.
