Oman: Around 140 Expats Arrested During House Raids

A total of 141 expat workers were arrested on Thursday, the Ministry of Manpower has announced.

The arrests took place at dawn when officials raided a number of buildings that housed expat workers who were violating the labour law.

 

In a statement online, the Ministry said, “The Ministry and Royal Oman Police raided a number of homes that housed expat workers who were violating labour laws. The arrests took place Thursday morning. The raid was carried out at al Jufnain, al Seeb, and resulted in the detainment of 141 workers, who will be due for legal procedure.”

The Royal Oman Police added that the detained employees were of Asian nationality and included workers who were violating labour and residency laws, as well as some who had entered the country illegally.
