Cost of hiring Filipino house helpers in UAE reduced

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization (MOHRE) has announced that the cost of hiring Filipino domestic helpers to work in the UAE has been reduced.

The cost was cut by 66 percent, from Dh20,000 to Dh12,000, following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Philippines and the UAE, reported Khaleej Times.

Through surveys and studies, the UAE government was able to set the costs of recruiting domestic workers, depending on the country of origin of the worker and the employment deal with the hiring family. The cost of plane tickets and other expenses were also taken into account.

Meanwhile, MOHRE also announced the opening of 11 Tadbeer centers, one-stop facilities for recruiting household service workers (HSWs) in the UAE.

His Excellency Nasser bin Thani Juma Al Hamli, Minister of Human Resources and Emiratization, spearheaded the opening of a Tadbeer center in Ajman, one of 11 centers to be opened in the UAE.

There are three new Tadbeer centers in Ajman. Aside from these, there are two others in Abu Dhabi, four in Dubai, one in Sharjah, and another in Fujairah.

The move was done in line with the UAE’s goal to provide domestic workers proper orientation and training upon arrival in the country.

Services related to recruitment and processing of employment requirements are offered in Tadbeer centers. The centers can also issue medical tests, health insurance and ID services.

Tadbeer centers serve as the government’s replacement for domestic worker recruitment agencies.
