OFW dies of poisoning in Saudi Arabia

A Filipina worker died after allegedly consuming liquid poison in Saudi Arabia, where she worked as a maid for about four months.

The worker, 44-year-old Emerita Gannaban, was a resident of Balbalan town, Kalinga province. According to Inquirer, she died after drinking an undetermined liquid on October 27.

Her family came to know about the incident after a nurse at Prince Mohammed Abdulaziz Hospital in Saudi Arabia contacted her brother, Cezar Bawit, on October 29.

Gannaban’s mouth and internal organs were burned by the liquid she had taken.

Moreover, the migrant worker also sustained bruises all over her body. “Before she died, my sister had phoned us about being maltreated,” said her brother.

He added that Gannaban had wanted to come home just months after taking the job as a maid in Saudi.

“She told us she was being locked in the bathroom and had not been fed nor given time to rest properly after work,” Bawit added.

As per the report, the local YHMD International Manpower Services and Aloula recruited the Filipina.
