PAL: Baggage handlers in viral video face disciplinary action

Airport workers who were caught in a viral video mishandling passenger baggage will face disciplinary action, the flag carrier said Tuesday.

The incident happened at the Davao International Airport last Jan. 3 and involved PR 1809 from Manila. The clip was uploaded on Facebook, PAL said.

The direct employer of the baggage loaders, Excellent Workers MPC, will "apply the appropriate disciplinary sanctions" and "take urgent corrective actions," it said.

"We condemn in the strongest terms this blatant violation of our cargo handling procedures. The video speaks for itself, substantial enough for PAL to take appropriate action," PAL said.

"We owe it to our customers to ensure proper care of their shipments,” it said.

The airline apologized for the incident and thanked the concerned citizen who filmed and uploaded the video.

Last Friday, the Manila International Airport Authority terminated its contract with ground service provider MIASCOR after a case of baggage pilferage at Clark International Airport earlier this month.
