Qatar started the investigation on Currency Manipulation bid by UAE

H E Sheik Saif bin Ahmed bin Saif Al Thani, Director of the Government Communications Office, reported yesterday that Qatar opened an investigation concerning an alleged attempt to manipulate  its currency in the early weeks of the ongoing Gulf political crisis.

He disclosed to a French news organization AFP that an anonymous global financial establishment, partially owned by United Arab Emirates, had been told to halt trading Qatari riyals crosswise over Europe and Asia.

He said that one of the financial institution stopped trading Qatari riyals for a couple of days and Qatar connected with them on the issue only after that they resumed trading as cited in thepeninsulaqatar.

Sheik Saif bin Ahmed included that Qatar's intelligence agencies are doing the investigation and have drawn in law enforcement authorities in the relevant jurisdictions. The Qatari government through its different entities, including the central bank, is working on confirming and identifying these reports.

Sheik Saif bin Ahmed added that Qatar got to know in July about the currency issue but is now returning to the issue following recent media reports. He cautioned that there can be attempts to bring down or attack Qatar's hosting of the World Cup 2022 in different ways.
