How to manage your monthly budget for a living in Doha, Qatar.

Cost of living is depending on the lifestyle you lead. However, Qatar is not that expensive and it is also a taxfree country. You will get electricity, phone lines, and water. Major expenses are educational fee and accomodation. 

Accomodation: 

All expats working in Qatar will rent the properties.However, if you are on employment contract then you will get housing, furnitures for free of cost. Rented properties in Qatar are not furnished, even if it is a grand villa or studio. Expats Accomodation includes gym, swimming pool, play area for kids. In Qatar, you can find seperate villas and apartments for rent. 

You can decide whether to rent a villa or an appartment based on the salary you get, family members living with you and the space. 

The approximate cost for single bedroom apartment is avg of 6,932.20 QR. The approximate cost for tripple bedroom apartment  is avg of 13,446.43 QR. If you wish to buy an apartment, cost would be around 16,062.34 QR per square meters. 

Education:

Education in Qatar is bit expensive. However, in some cases, educational fee is given by the employer as a part of employment contract. Americal and English school in Qatar are more expensive than Indian, Philippino and other schools. 

Clothing:

Compare to other GCC countries, branded cloths are more expensive in Qatar. when shopping, a pair of jeans may cost about QR234.60, a summer dress in a chain store like Zara or H&M may cost about QR227.73, a pair of branded shoe may cost about QR335.17.

Food

Food is bit expensive in Qatar as most of the foods are imported. For instances, 1 liter of milk would cost 5.72 QR , bread 500gm (5.30 QR), White Rice 1 KG 6.95 QR, Eggs for dozen 10.13 QR. 

HealthCare: 

Qatar has a state healthcare system Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), which offers free emergency treatment to all those who register. But in Qatar, the cost of health care is costlier and most of the expats are depending on HMC now. 

Utilities/Miscellaneous:

Utilities including Gas, water and electricity are cheaper in Qatar. Cost of electricity, water and garbage are 281.04 QR  per month. Prepaid mobile tarrif per minute would be 0.44 QR. Internet (10 Mbps, Unlimited Data, Cable/ADSL) is 248.19 QR. 

And when it comes to restaurants, full meal would cost 30.00 QR, Meal for 2 People, Mid-range Restaurant, Three-course is 200.00 QR   McMeal at McDonalds (or Equivalent Combo Meal) is 21QR. Cappuccino (regular) is 17QR. Water (0.33 liter bottle) is 1.29 QR. 

Transportation: 

Cost of transportation is lesser compare to other cities. Petrol is very reasonable and second-hand cars are also reasonably priced. The public transportation mode in Qatar is through Bus, Karwa taxi or private taxi. One-way Ticket for local transport would be 5.00 QR. Monthly pass cost is 130.00 QR.
