So how do you detect that your petrol attendant has made this mistake of adding the wrong fuel in your car? Here are the symptoms.

Diesel In A Petrol Car

Since diesel is heavy than petrol, the first part that gets affected is the fuel filter, which will tend to clog up quite quickly as diesel is relatively more oily. This will make your car stop unexpectedly.

Also, your car might just emit lots of white smoke as well and lose power before it stalls completely.

Petrol In A Diesel Car

This might just be more expensive and dangerous than putting diesel in a petrol car. In diesel engines, there are parts like the fuel injection pump that depend on the diesel's lubrication properties to run smoothly.

And since petrol doesn't have this quality, these parts stop functioning properly. Also remember that, there is black smoke due to unburnt fuel which is followed by sluggishness and stalling. The car will refuse to start after that.

So what to do if you put in the wrong fuel? Keep reading ahead to know that.

#1 What To Do?

#1WhatTo Do?

After realizing the mistake of putting in the wrong fuel type, the first thing that you need to do is stop driving. After this comes an important step of disconnecting the main fuel line from the engine to the tank. If you can access the tank using a hose through the filler cap, do that and doze off as much fuel as possible.

Try and pump out as much fuel as possible by even turning your car keys again and again. Once this is done, fill in the engine with the correct fuel and again drain it out to clean up the lines, before connecting the fuel line back.

Now add in proper fuel again. If you have a petrol car, you will have to change the fuel filter and clean the spark plugs and if your car runs on diesel, open the drain plug at the bottom of the filter and drain out any fuel in the filter as well. And by doing all this, you are good to go again.
