Leonardo DiCaprio Reveals That He Will Turn His Private Island Into An Eco-Restorative Resort

Leonardo DiCaprio bought an island, and in the coming years, he plans to 'heal' the said island.

Fresh from his first Oscar this year, Mr. DiCaprio revealed that he is planning to ecologically restore an island he bought ten years ago.

Blackadore Caye, 104 acres of wild, unpopulated land off the coast of Belize is set to be the first eco-restorative resort on the planet to help restore eroding coastlines and benefit overfished waters.

Blackadore Caye is a 45-minute boat ride from Philip S. W. Goldson International Airport in Belize City and a 15-minute boat ride from San Pedro, the nearest big town.

“It was like heaven on earth,” he told NY Times. “And almost immediately, I found this opportunity to purchase an island there.”

DiCpario teamed up with Paul Scialla, the chief executive of Delos, a multi-national development company based in New York City, and is now partners with the Blackadore Development Group.

Scialla made it clear that the goal “is to create a development true to the history of the area,” keeping sustainability and the environmental integrity as top priorities during construction which will start early next year.

As far as materials are concerned, he said that they plan on sourcing them from locals.

When it opens in 2018, Blackadore Caye, A Restorative Island is said to feature all the sorts of a 5-star luxury resort, and will also help the economy of the surrounding area by creating permanent jobs for 400 people.

An estimate of $200 million in revenue is projected by the group for the next 20 years.

Leonardo is well-known for his excellent films, but not a lot of people know his desire to help the environment.
