Sachin Tendulkar Welcomes Smriti Mandhana To The UNICEF India Family

A New Role Off The Pitch

Sachin Tendulkar warmly welcomed Smriti Mandhana to the UNICEF India family recently. The Indian cricketer was appointed the organization’s newest celebrity advocate. This adds a major new responsibility to an incredibly eventful week for the batter. UNICEF India announced Mandhana’s appointment to mark the International Day of the Girl. In her new role, she will actively support initiatives promoting children’s rights globally. She will focus particularly on adolescent girls’ health, overall well-being, and equal opportunities. “Welcome to the UNICEF India family,” Tendulkar wrote affectionately on X. He stated she inspires millions on the field and will be a brilliant voice.

A Decade Of Dedicated Advocacy

The former India captain has associated with UNICEF for more than a decade. He supported their vital health and education initiatives heavily since 2003. UNICEF appointed him Regional Ambassador for South Asia back in 2013. He campaigned tirelessly for causes including polio prevention, basic hygiene, and sanitation. Mandhana’s appointment comes just days after she received another massive promotion. The BCCI named her India’s new women’s cricket captain recently. She took over the leadership role from Harmanpreet Kaur, who stepped down. The left-handed batter brings considerable international playing experience to her new position.
