In video posted online, you can see employees using broomsticks to beat a woman and chase her out of the store.
A family member of the victim says the situation was blown out of proportion, but community activists say it's nothing new.
"You can't treat us like we're second-class citizens," said one protester. "If you pay for a service and you don't like a service, it's a $5 eyebrow. All you have to do is say 'I'm sorry' and keep it going. It's not that serious. $5 is not even lunch."
"They always treat us horribly," said another. "I stopped coming here altogether, but as soon as I heard all the injustices that had happened, I felt like it was my responsibility to come and show support."
Police later charged Huiyue Zheng, 32 of Brooklyn, with assault, menacing, criminal possession of a weapon and harrassment.
Christina Thomas, 21, of Brooklyn was charged with assault, menacing and harrassment.
A spokesperson for the Brooklyn district attorney's office says they are in the process of examining all of the evidence, including videos that were not available at the time of the arraignments.
