A young mother who wanted to go on vacation with her lover, left her children home alone for 9 days, causing the death of her son, according to police in Ukraine.
Kiev police said that they have arrested 20-year-old Vladislava Podchapko, after being accused of causing the death of her 2-year-old son Daniil.
Her three-year-old daughter Anna, was saved by police just in time. Podchapko was charged with one count of child neglect. If convicted, she faces up to 8 years in prison.
According to the police investigation, Podchapko and her boyfriend went on a 9-day vacation, and they left the two children home alone without telling anyone.
Neighbors called police after hearing children crying in the home. When police arrived, Daniil was already dead. Anna was on the brink of death and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she is recovering.
Doctors believe that Anna will survive. During questioning, Podchapko told police that she did not know that children can die.
