Dubai Mall

Mall of the Emirates 

It’s not just a mall, it’s an entire shopping resort! Opened in 2005, Mall of the Emirates boasts to be the ultimate destination in Dubai for shopping, leisure and entertainment.

After you’ve perused the 466 retail stores on offer there is still plenty left to do. Take the kids to Magic Planet, a family entertainment centre complete with games and rides that rivals any theme park. Check out the fourteen screen multiplex cinemas, complete with full reclining chairs. You won’t want to miss out on Ski-Dubai, that world renowned indoor ski slope which is also a part of the complex. After all of this you’ll probably need a good night’s sleep. Don’t worry; there is even a hotel here. Each year around 30 million people visit the mall. There are currently plans for expansion in place, with new retail outlets, commuter links and parking spaces to be available at the end of 2010.

Burjuman Centre

Burjuman is the home of high end fashion in Dubai; host to all the best brands money can buy such as Louis Vuitton, Cartier and Bvlgari to name a few. BurJuman is the height of shopping luxury in Dubai. Beyond the exclusive luxury brands, there are also some great ready to wear items on offer from brands like Guess and DKNY.

There are two parts to the mall, the old and the new. Stick to the older part for the more expensive brands all in one place. There is a play area on the third floor for children, which includes an interactive fountain. The mall is made up of sunny courtyards and impressive gardens, giving it a distinctive outdoor feel. There are great restaurants and cafes to choose form if you need a break form all the shopping. Parking is easy to find, there are plenty of spaces underground, and a taxi rank just outside the complex.

Deira City Centre

Located on the waterfront, Deira City Centre is known for it’s friendly service. Many shoppers are surprised to be greeted with a smile and a complimentary bottle of water. What a great relief from the hot sun of Dubai! There are over 350 stores with a diverse range of merchandise. You’ll find all of the great fashion brands, as well as electronics, jewellery and local specialities such as silk, cashmere and oriental rugs. It’s a great place for jewellery with 33 dedicated stores.

When you start to get hungry there are over 40 restaurants to choose from. There is also a cinema and a Magic Planet to keep the kids entertained. Convenient to reach, the mall runs shuttle buses to and from 11 of the major hotels. You can even buy a car in the Toyota showroom. The complex attracts about 20 million visitors a year. Diera City Centre was the first of the mega malls which offer shopping, entertainment and leisure within the one complex to open in Dubai.

Jumeirah Plaza

Centrally located and close to many of the major hotels, Jumeirah Plaza is certainly one of the most convenient malls to visit. Opened in 1994, by Dubai standards it’s one of the older malls, although it’s still very much worth a visit. There are all the international brands you expect as well as jewellery, home wares and quite a lot of watch showrooms.

Don’t miss TGI Fridays fro a great steak and some happy hour mocktails! There is also office space, a hotel and furnished apartments that are part of the complex. A large exhibition centre plays host to a wide range of activities throughout the year, from fun interactive things for kids to art shows to cultural events. Many locals prefer to shop at Jumeirah Plaza as opposed to some of the larger malls as it is often less crowded.

Al Ghurair Centre

Fashionistas will love the Al Ghurair Centre. With the best of the high street brands such as Esprit, French Connection and Baby Phat, you will be spoilt for choice with a huge range of up to the minute trends on offer. If clothes are your thing you can’t go past Al Ghurair. There are also some shops here which specialise in local fashion, don’t miss a chance to garnish your wardrobe with unique items crafted from lush silks and quality textiles.

There is also a large accessory gallery and a cosmetic section to the mall to help you complete your look. A large cinema which is adjoined to the mall offers showing of Hollywood as well as Bollywood films. There is also a kids club and playground, which is staffed by employees, so all the family will be entertained.Wafi Shopping Mall

Offering 350 unique stores, Wafi Mall describes itself as offering a unique shopping experience. What sets Wafi apart from other malls is perhaps its extensive collection of artwork. Inspired by both modern art and the legacies of pharaohs past, there are extensive collections of art throughout the mall as well as many galleries where you can purchase your own piece to take home with you. Both local as well as international artists are featured.

Mercato Shopping Mall

Mercato, meaning ‘market’ in Italian, is the first ever themed mall in the Middle East and UAE. Based on a distinctive Renaissance architectural concept, Mercato captures traditional Italian, French and Spanish art. It essentially portrays how a Mediterranean town looked during the European Renaissance.

Located in the prestigious Jumeirah residential area, it marks a clear departure from the Arabian architecture. Piazzas, cobbled streets, and top international brands all make for a fantastic shopping experience. Children can play at the Fun City while adults can take in a movie or relax by the street cafes.

Ibn Battuta Mall

The Ibn Battuta Mall is the proud owner of the title of being the world’s largest themed shopping mall. It is designed in honour of Ibn Battuta, a famed Arabic explorer. Locals and tourists alike are able to enjoy a shopping experience that is also historically informative. The mall is divided into six courts, each an architectural reflexion of a region that Battuta explored. Battuta who died over 600 years ago is known as an Arabian icon and is remembered for his strong Islamic values along with his exploratory expeditions.

There are 275 shops, 50 restaurants and a 21 screen cinema to give you an idea of the Mall’s size. There is a large exhibition centre called China Court which plays host to a large range of activities throughout the year. In the summer it hosts a variety of markets which specialise in local specialities including art and photography and ethnic clothing.

Festival Centre

Located on the banks of Dubai creek, Festival centre offers plenty of great retail outlets including Toys R Us and Marks & Spencer. There are over 60 restaurants to stop and grab a bit to eat in. Perhaps what makes the Festival Centre stand out is the 250 metre wide yacht club it is built around. The picturesque marina is home to many a luxury yacht, and surrounded by the many shops of the Festival Centre as well as some of the top hotels in Dubai.

Take the whole family to enjoy the Canal Walk, a waterside path that takes you through many of the ground level shops while enjoying a view of the marina. Don’t miss the tops story skywalk, which extends over the entire centre. Up here you can see a movie, play tenpin bowling or even exercise your lungs in the karaoke lounge.
