Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani teenager who became a global face of girls education after getting shot in the head by the Taliban in 2012, recently graduated from Birmingham's Edgbaston school.

Immediately joining Twitter afterwards, she was welcomed and congratulated by major personalities including Canadian PM Justin Trudeau and Bill Gates.

She gained more than 3,70,000 followers on joining day!

Who is Malala Yousafzai?

Malala was born in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunwa province on 12 July 1997.

She gained international fame at 11 after she started writing a blog for BBC Urdu detailing life under Taliban rule. She later started vocally opposing the Taliban decree banning girls education.

Terming her the face of obscenity, a Taliban gunman shot her in the head in 2012, drawing wide international condemnation.

Was the attack on Malala staged?

While Malala has become the face of girls education, numerous conspiracy theories have cropped up suggesting that the attack on Malala was staged. Some have even pointed to evidence suggesting that she is the daughter of Hungarian missionaries working for the CIA!

Malala's activism

Since gaining international fame, Malala has consistently used different political and diplomatic forums to further causes including education.

While under treatment in UK, she launched the "I am Malala" petition through the UN demanding that all girls worldwide be sent to schools by 2015.

She even confronted President Obama about drone strikes in Pakistan, at a meeting at the White House in 2013.

Honors and accolades

Malala has received numerous accolades for her bravery and contribution to education activism. She became the youngest person to receive the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014, which she shared with Indian child rights activist Kailash Satyarthi.

Congratulating her on finishing High School, Canadian PM Justin Trudeau termed her bravery and commitment to education 'inspiring'.

Calling her an 'inspiration', Microsoft founder Bill Gates noted tweeted, "thanks to you, young women around the world can dream of a brighter future for themselves".

Indian-origin US senator Kamala Harris that her fight to 'be the change' was inspiring.

Malala to go to Oxford?

Malala had earlier stated that she would prefer to study Politics, Philosophy and Economics (PPE) at the Lady Margaret Hall at Oxford if she receives an AAA offer. She has also reportedly applied to the London School of Economics and the Warwick University
