Accused Of Selling Beef, Assam Muslim Man Allegedly Forced To Eat Pork

A Muslim man in India was abused and heckled for allegedly selling beef on Sunday. Reports propose, the police have detained around five individuals after a viral video demonstrated the man on his knees in deep slush, begging to let him go. 

The sources say that,Shaukat Ali, 68, was beaten on the street and forced to eat pork as punishment by locals. Now he is under treatment at a government hospital.

NDTV can't check the realness of the video or the affiliations of the mob assaulting the man. 

As per locale police, two separate First Information Reports (FIR) have been recorded - one of them is by Shaukat Ali's sibling. The police have begun an investigation and are vigilant for the men found in the video, state sources. 

 The mob, while threatening Shaukat Ali, inquired as to whether he had permit to sell beef and whether he was from Bangladesh. 

"Is it true that you are Bangladeshi? Is your name in the NRC (National Register of Citizens)?" somebody in the crowd can be heard asking him. 

 

Assam is implementing the NRC in an offer to get rid of illegal citizens. A last draft, published a year ago, saw names of more than 40 lakh individuals, among a sum of 3,29,91,384, candidates missing. 

The BJP in its proclamation discharged on Monday said it "will speedily total" the NRC on need. The gathering likewise said that it would actualize NRC in a staged way the nation over.
