Preparing A Legal Challenge In Mumbai
Cockroach Janta Party founder Abhijeet Dipke has publicly challenged the Hindi film industry to rally behind actor Imran Khan. With Khan facing an October 28 deadline to leave India, Dipke posted an urgent appeal on Instagram. He urged major Bollywood stars to break their silence and stand up for one of their own colleagues. Meanwhile, Khan's legal team is preparing an urgent petition to challenge the deportation notice in the Bombay High Court. Lawyers representing the 43-year-old actor expect to file the High Court petition between Friday and Monday morning. The Foreigners Regional Registration Office issued the exit notice under the newly enacted Immigration and Foreigners Act of 2025. Officials acted after BJP leader Kirit Somaiya filed a complaint at the Gamdevi Police Station following Saturday's protest.
How A Saturday Walk Led To An Immigration Notice
Somaiya argued that because Khan holds United States citizenship, his presence at a political demonstration violated Indian visa regulations. Police officers forwarded Somaiya's written complaint and video clips directly to immigration authorities for administrative action. An anonymous immigration official confirmed the notice directs Khan to depart India by October 28 for breaching foreigner rules. The controversy stems from an October 10 gathering at Mumbai's historic August Kranti Maidan supporting CJP's New Delhi demonstrations. Tushar Gandhi, the great-grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, had organized the Mumbai solidarity march alongside his daughter Kasturi Gandhi. Mumbai Police denied permission for the rally and detained Tushar and Kasturi Gandhi at the venue.
Defending Civic Rights As A Local Resident
Khan's partner, Lekha Washington, maintained that the actor walked to the ground at 5:00 pm solely to check on detained friends. Finding the park barricaded and filled with reporters, Khan told cameras he belonged to no political party. He stated he simply wanted to understand why authorities were restricting movement and suppressing citizens' voices. Now, the Bombay High Court will decide whether those brief remarks justify expelling a lifelong Mumbai resident. Follow the legal battles and political debates intersecting with Indian entertainment.
