Alleged Violations Of OCI Status
Bharatiya Janata Party leader Kirit Somaiya demanded severe legal action against actor Imran Khan today. He called on Mumbai Police to arrest and deport the Bollywood actor immediately. Somaiya alleges Khan violated the strict conditions of his Overseas Citizen of India status. The dispute centers around a political protest held in the city last week. Mumbai Police detained Khan alongside several other individuals during a demonstration at August Kranti Maidan. Protesters organized the gathering to support a separate demonstration led by the Cockroach Janta Party. The Gamdevi Police Station subsequently registered a First Information Report regarding the event. Somaiya provided police with material relating to speeches Khan delivered during the protest.
Accusations Of Political Extremism
Somaiya describes Khan as an American citizen holding an OCI card improperly. “The citizens of India cannot tolerate the political extremism that Imran Khan has been displaying,” Somaiya stated. He accused Khan of deliberately misusing his immigration status to incite domestic anarchy. Somaiya demanded that police issue an immediate formal summons to the actor. The BJP leader also targeted actor Shabana Azmi and writer Javed Akhtar in his remarks. He alleged their appearances at similar protests represented a coordinated, well-funded political conspiracy. However, he provided no specific evidence regarding the source of their alleged funding. Khan spoke to reporters directly to clarify his personal involvement in the demonstration.
Khan Defends His Civic Participation
He stated he attended the protest simply as a concerned resident of Mumbai. He expressed deep concerns regarding increasing restrictions on fundamental freedom of movement locally. He also criticized authorities for suppressing the legitimate voices of ordinary citizens. Khan emphasized he holds no affiliation with any specific political organization whatsoever. He participated in the demonstration purely as an individual exercising his civic rights. Somaiya believes the current police FIR remains completely inadequate regarding the alleged offenses. He wants police to add specific charges concerning illegal political agitation and visa breaches. Understand the shifting political landscape and its impact on the entertainment industry.
