A severe storm hit Uttar Pradesh late Thursday night. An under construction bridge collapsed over the Betwa River in Hamirpur district. The horrific accident killed at least six hardworking laborers.

Locals report that segments of the bridge snapped first. Heavy support pillars crashed down shortly after. Two guards protecting the site died instantly under the massive rubble.

Additional Superintendent of Police Arvind Kumar Verma rushed to the scene. He deployed the State Disaster Response Force immediately. Rescue teams retrieved two workers safely from the wreckage.

Identifying the Young Victims
Authorities identified the youngest victim as 19 year old Kuldeep Nishad. He traveled from Chilla village in the Banda district for work. The other deceased victims range in age from 22 to 42 years old.
