India Condemns Drone Attacks On Commercial Vessels In Hormuz Region

Protecting Vital Maritime Trade

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs condemned recent attacks on commercial vessels. Two dangerous incidents occurred in the highly strategic Strait of Hormuz region. A drone attack on the MT Petro Dolphin left two Indian seafarers missing. The government called for immediate de-escalation and resolution through robust diplomatic dialogue. The MEA issued a formal statement on October 11 detailing the attacks. The Marshall Islands-flagged tanker MT Valthera was also hit by an unknown projectile. That specific strike resulted in a dangerous fire onboard the massive commercial vessel. Fortunately, all 11 Indian seafarers onboard the MT Valthera were reported completely safe.

Coordinating Rescue Operations

The Embassy of India in Muscat is monitoring the volatile situation closely. They are coordinating with Omani authorities and ship management companies for the rescue. The safety and security of Indian seafarers remain an absolute national priority. The recurring attacks on commercial shipping risk aggravating an already tense situation. India reiterated the absolute need for immediate de-escalation across the Middle East. Attacks on commercial vessels, civilian seafarers, and critical infrastructure must cease immediately. The world relies on the safe flow of maritime commerce through international waterways. Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal confirmed the rescue of nine crew members.

Building International Coalitions

The local Coast Guard continues active search-and-rescue operations for the missing men. The latest incidents raise severe concerns over global maritime security and international trade. India recently launched a new international coalition to address these exact issues. The Group of Friends on Safety and Security of Shipping launched in New York. It seeks to strengthen coordination among global maritime stakeholders to protect seafarers. A disruption in global shipping routes drastically increases the cost of imported goods.
