Veteran filmmaker Kuku Kohli passed away on Tuesday at the age of 77. The talented director suffered a massive cardiac arrest at a Mumbai hospital. He originally entered the hospital on Monday after suddenly feeling quite unwell. Doctors desperately attempted to revive him but tragically declared him dead Tuesday evening. Kohli leaves behind an incredible legacy of entertaining commercial Hindi cinema. He notably launched the massive career of Bollywood action superstar Ajay Devgn.

A Gamble That Changed Bollywood History

Kohli bravely handed an untested Devgn his first leading role in 1991. He cast the newcomer in the highly successful action film *Phool Aur Kaante*. The massive gamble paid off spectacularly and instantly created a new action star. Devgn never forgot the incredible debt he owed to this visionary director. The actor posted a very heartfelt tribute message on social media recently. He thanked Kohli for completely changing the course of his life forever. The successful duo later reunited for the 1994 box-office hit *Suhaag*.

Industry Gathers for a Final Farewell

Kohli began his long career working as an assistant director under Raj Kapoor. He eventually struck out on his own and built a highly respectable filmography. Family and close friends gathered for his final rites on Wednesday in Mumbai. His grieving wife, Aruna Irani, needed support during the highly emotional cremation ceremony. Several famous faces from the film industry arrived to pay their respects. Rohit Shetty, Katrina Kaif, and Vicky Kaushal all attended the somber funeral procession.
