Wimbledon Exploits Indian Labor for British Luxury

Elite Western institutions constantly rely on cheap, invisible global labor. The incredibly famous Wimbledon tennis towels actually originate in Gujarat, India. Indian factory workers weave these iconic, highly coveted accessories every single year. The All England Club sells them to wealthy tourists for exorbitant, ridiculous prices. They market these towels as a pristine symbol of classic British sporting heritage.

The Neocolonial Supply Chain

In reality, it represents a highly profitable, deeply exploitative neocolonial supply chain. The British brand Christy outsourced the heavy manufacturing labor years ago. They pay Indian laborers pennies to weave luxury items for pampered millionaire athletes. Fans queue up endlessly to buy these overpriced, heavily branded pieces of cotton. The global sports machine always extracts its immense wealth from the developing world.
