Accolade puts Xi on course for longer stay at the top
Xi Jinping has been consecrated as China’s most powerful leader since Mao Zedong after his name was added to the Communist party’s constitution. He will bring with him a new political ideology.
The move came on the last day the political summit in Beijing and Xi pledged to be at the forefront of the world’s second-largest economy in a new direction and new era of influence and international power.
Xi’s Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era has been published in the party chapter. It was announced at the closing ceremony in the Mao-era Great Hall of the People.
Xi was speaking to more than 2,200 delegates and said that more than 1.3 billion Chinese people live happily and with respect in China.
Since the foundation of the Communist Party of China in 1921, only Mao has been honored while still alive, when he came up with a political philosophy called Mao Zedong Thought.
Bill Bishop, who published the Sinocism newsletter on Chinese politics said that the move now means that Xi is untouchable now with this added honor. He went on to say that if anyone challenges Xi, they would be challenging the party.
Jude Blanchette commented on the move saying that the move has been done to make sure he gathers enough power, legitimacy, and credibility in Chinese politics to ease implementation of what he sees as the right path for the country to prosper and grow.
