Formula One and the FIA cancelled the upcoming grands prix in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. The sporting bodies cited the ongoing situation in the Middle East.
Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) planned to host its race weekend from April 10 to 12. Jeddah scheduled the Saudi event for April 17 to 19. Officials confirmed they will not substitute these April dates.
Officials Prioritise Safety
F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali called it a difficult but necessary decision. He thanked local promoters for their total understanding.
FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem stated the organisation always puts safety first. He expressed hope for a swift return to regional stability.
Local Promoters Support Decision
BIC chief executive Shaikh Salman bin Isa Al Khalifa fully supported the move. He thanked the F1 community for their enduring partnership.
Saudi motorsport chairman Prince Khalid bin Sultan Al Abdullah Al Faisal also respected the calendar changes. He noted the kingdom's strong ongoing partnership with F1.
Support Races And Ticket Refunds
Organisers also cancelled the scheduled Formula Two, Formula Three, and F1 Academy support rounds.
BIC announced full refunds or credit notes for direct ticket buyers. Fans can expect an email detailing the specific refund process. Ticket holders can also contact the circuit at +973-17450000 for direct assistance.
