Aamir Khan Breaks Down In Tears Reflecting On Family Sacrifices During Film Career

A Deep Sense Of Personal Loss

Bollywood actor Aamir Khan showed rare vulnerability at the Singapore International Film Festival. He broke down in tears as he reflected on the immense personal sacrifices he made. He admitted that working like a “madman” cost him precious time with his children. Khan stated his intense focus on his career ultimately damaged important personal relationships. The actor became deeply emotional when asked to identify the weakest moments of his journey. Khan, who received the festival’s prestigious Screen Icon Award, answered the question honestly. He said the realization hit him hard during the global Covid-19 pandemic. He began reflecting on how much of his life had been consumed by work.

Reassessing Personal Priorities

“It's okay to work like a madman, completely obsessed with what you're doing,” Khan explained. “But if it goes on for 30 years, you've lost your relationships.” He noted his kids have grown up into adults now while he was away. “So I felt a deep sense of loss,” Khan admitted tearfully to the crowd. He paused as emotion overwhelmed him, wiped away his tears, and apologized to the audience. Those present responded with warm applause, appreciating his honesty. The experience prompted him to fundamentally reassess his priorities. Khan said he deliberately made more time for his family over the past four years.

Updating Fans On A 3 Idiots Sequel

“I'm so glad that this thought occurred to me when I was 56,” he said. He added that waiting until he was 86 would be really too late to change. The actor also revisited an early professional setback that left him struggling emotionally. Following his 1988 breakthrough, he signed nine films within six months recklessly. He soon realized he took on too much, and the projects began failing. Khan recalled returning home in tears and confiding in his then-wife, Reena Dutta. He said he felt like he was slowly sinking in quicksand at that time. Khan also offered a highly anticipated update on the 3 Idiots sequel. He confirmed director Rajkumar Hirani is currently working on the script. He hopes to hear the final version when he returns to India next week.
