Japan Plans Massive Oil Reserve Release in May

Japan plans to release more national oil reserves soon. This new release equals 20 days of national oil consumption. The massive release starts in early May. Officials want to counter ongoing uncertainty regarding global oil supplies.

Promoting Market Stability

Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi announced this important decision today. She noted this move follows a similar step from last month. The government actively works to promote global energy market stability.

Securing Alternative Routes

Prime Minister Takaichi also confirmed another major energy strategy. Her government currently works to secure new oil imports. They plan to use completely alternative shipping routes. Japan wants to diversify supply sources and enhance national energy security.

Examining Current Stockpiles

Japan previously released reserves equaling 50 days of consumption last March. The Agency for Natural Resources and Energy shared new data recently. Total national oil reserves can cover 230 days as of April 6. Government stockpiles account for 143 days of that massive total.
