He’s also represented Australia at under-19 level, making 136 off 130 balls in another one-day match against Pakistan’s under-19s in December.

The bowling all-rounder took five wickets at 32, but could only add 21 runs at 5.25 batting down the order.

TASMANIA

Riley Meredith – 22 years old – right-arm fast-medium

Two first-class matches – two wickets at 68.50

Seven List A matches – five wickets at 65.80

22-year-old seamer Riley Meredith has been described by coach Adam Griffith as Tasmania’s fastest bowler who hasn’t played for Australia.

The left-armer has been estimated to regularly bowl more than 140km/h, along with fellow quick Aaron Summers.

Meredith made his List A debut for Cricket Australia XI in January 2017, before playing in his first Sheffield Shield match for Tasmania last November.

He took five wickets in last year’s One-Day Cup, before featuring for the Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash League twice.

Meredith was selected in the team who produced an upset win over Perth Scorchers in the semi-final, taking 1-29 at 9.66 runs per over.

Griffith said a standout performance this year would be something of a second coming for Meredith, who threatened to breakout last season.

“From our group, I think young Riley Meredith sort of burst on the scene a little bit last year but then didn’t play a lot after that so I think he’s someone that people might have forgotten about a little bit,” Griffith said.

Griffith added that he is also keen to see the batting performances of 21-year-old Jake Doran, 23-year-old Ben McDermott and 26-year-old Jordan Silk.

Three first-class matches – 12 wickets at 18.50

One List A match – 3 wickets at 19.66

Batsman Joshua Philippe and paceman Cameron Green have spent the off-season in Brisbane with the National Performance Squad (NPS), improving their game with coach Chris Rogers. Now they will head back west, where new WA coach Adam Voges is planning on giving the “exciting” pair another shot at senior level.
