British Airways apologized to a Canadian family who was bitten by a bedbug during a night flight.
Heather Szilagyi flew from Vancouver to London with her eight-year-old daughter and fiancée earlier this month.
Szilagyi said the first bedbug crawled out of her in-seat TV so she called the attention of a cabin crew that British Airways Flight 84 might have a bedbug problem.
“The flight attendant said, ‘We don’t have anywhere to move you. I’m really sorry,’ ” Szilagyi said.
Bed bugs—which are often difficult to correctly identify—were easily recognized by Szilagyi because she spent years working in the hotel industry, Canada’s CTV News reports.
With nothing more to be done, the trio had to close their eyes and get some sleep.
After touching down in Slovakia, the family’s final destination, the couple took to Twitter to share their experience that left Szilagyi and her daughter covered in bug bites.
@British_Airways Hi. I have received extremely bad customer support for a recent issue with bedbugs on an overnight flight. Pics: pic.twitter.com/O80hXqyrsU

“Me and my daughter are both really sensitive to insect bites, so she was just covered just all over. I’ve still got a really infected one,” Szilagyi said.
The British Airways then contacted the family to apologize, and promised to upgrade their place to business class on the flight home.
“We were not asking for a refund. All we were asking for was a flight on a different plane, to make sure it was a different plane, to make sure that the plane that was infested with bed bugs was taken care of,” she said.
