Woman Gets One Last Chance to See the Beach in Touching Viral Image

  • A dying woman in Queensland, Australia, was granted her last wish to see the ocean once more last week.
  • Two paramedics stopped on her final ride home, and the trio spent time on the shore.
  • The woman lived near Hervey Bay, where the paramedics made the final stop, with her husband.

In what could be one of the most touching images taken anywhere in the world this year, a Queensland, Australia, woman was granted her final wish to see the beach one more time before she passed away.

According to a Facebook post from the Queensland Ambulance Service, the unidentified woman was being transported by paramedics for the final time when she expressed a desire to be at the beach, so the ambulance stopped at Hervey Bay to fulfill the wish last Wednesday. SBS Australia identified the two paramedics as Graeme Cooper and Danielle Kellan.

"Above and beyond, the crew took a small diversion to the awesome beach at Hervey Bay to give the patient this opportunity – tears were shed and the patient felt very happy," the QAS wrote in the Facebook post.

The woman lived near Hervey Bay with her husband, Cooper told SBS Australia. As she sat in the gurney along the coastline, the woman told the paramedics, "I'm at peace, everything is right," the Fraser Coast Chronicle reported.

In fact, this was the second time the woman had been brought to the shore, but this time, it was on the way for her final ride home, the Australian Broadcasting Company said. The paramedics also used a bag to scoop up some ocean water so she could experience it once more, the report added.

"I thought the next best thing is I can get some ocean and bring it to her," Cooper told ABC. "She actually tasted the salt water. It's just very humbling to have these experiences."

In five days, the post has been shared nearly 25,000 times, and countless people offered their own stories about times when people were granted a final wish to see the beach in their home country.
