Here are some apps to get you going on World Health Day

World Health Day is approaching, and you celebrate it by keeping fit using the help of apps that help promote a better lifestyle.

While technology can be by your side - giving you all the ammunition to encourage positive change - the biggest advocate to living and being overall healthy should still be yourself.

World Health Day, which is this Friday, also marks the founding of the World Health Organisation.

The following apps, which are available on iOS, focuses on three key spheres: wellness, nutrition and fitness.

Wellness

Among the wellness apps Apple has is Breathe, which is available on the Apple Watch and encourages you to take moments in your day to do short deep-breathing sessions. The haptic cues guide you through deep, full breaths and on completion, you will receive a heart rate summary.

Headspace is a guided meditation app that starts users off with a free 10-day challenge directing them on 10 guided meditations, for 10 minutes each time, while Sleep Pulse 2 Motion makes the first sleep tracker for the Apple Watch even better by tracking your motion, heart rate and nightly steps while you sleep.

 Fitness

The Apple Watch Activity App tracks all the ways you move throughout the day, from simple walking to being at the gym and while engaging in sports. Three rings give you a snapshot of your progress; notifications will allow you to see your progress updates and motivate you to keep going. You can share your Activity rings with friends and family.

Zova, along with its personal trainer Zara and which is also available on Apple TV, tracks and evaluates your daily activity and coaches you through runs and full-body workouts, while Pocket Yoga is a flexible yoga app that allows you to choose between different practices and difficulty levels.

Nutrition

WaterMinder is an intuitive app that will help you track your water intake and based in your body weight and remind you to drink water to make sure you stay hydrated. Healthy Eating Meal Planner plans out your daily meal plans along with a handy shopping list for the week, while iCalorie allows you to keep track of what you eat, your activities, as well as your achievements in the most efficient manner.
