New Directions Returns To Television
It's time for a Kiki. Disney+ and Hulu gave Ryan Murphy’s Glee reboot a formal series order. This comes more than eleven years after New Directions took their final bow. Gen Z Gleeks are absolutely thrilled about the news. However, many older fans are understandably nervous about the revival. Where exactly would Glee fit into the cultural landscape of 2026? 20th Television, which made the original, is currently producing the reboot. Murphy is writing with original co-creators Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan. Murphy said the show had “come back around” due to TikTok popularity.
Who Is Returning To The Choir Room?
Murphy says he has been in touch with about 10 original cast members. Variety reports that Lea Michele is returning to play Rachel Berry. Heather Morris announced that Brittany S. Pierce is “back for more #Glee.” Chord Overstreet and Harry Shum Jr. also posted excited messages online. Chris Colfer says he’s “heard absolutely nothing” about returning as Kurt. He admits it would be incredibly hard to return without Naya Rivera. The choir room produced Tony winners, a bestselling author, and Broadway leads. Darren Criss won the 2025 Tony for Maybe Happy Ending.
Honoring Those The Cast Lost
Jane Lynch won two Emmys and hosts Weakest Link. A Glee reunion will always have painful, empty seats. Cory Monteith and Naya Rivera were two of the show’s brightest stars. Cory died from an accidental overdose just before season five. Naya drowned at Lake Piru while saving her young son. The cast has spent years asking fans to remember them as people. Glee was a groundbreaking, joyful hit, but also a gloriously chaotic mess. The new Glee will be judged on how it handles its heavy baggage. Honoring Cory and Naya with love will set the tone.
