10 Of The Richest People In The World (Who Look Like They’re Poor)

5. Vincent Katheiser

Probably the youngest and least wealthy person on this list is Vincent Katheiser. You might recognize him as the star from the hit show Mad Men. But even though he’s the least wealthy person on this list, he’s definitely no slouch either, with a net worth of about $3 million. Aside from Mad Men, you may recognize him from shows like Angel, in which he plays the character of Connor. As you can see by this picture, Vincent doesn’t try to impress anyone by the way he dresses, and looks like the average guy you’d see on the street.

And he never drives, as he revealed in an interview: “I go on the bus, I walk. A friend left his car recently at my house and I took it out one day just for 15 minutes and it was terrible. You know why? I felt like I was back in LA again. Four or five years ago, when I had a car and I had been out of the city I wouldn’t feel I was back until I got in the car, you know. But now I feel off the grid. I feel that I am not part of the culture. And because I don’t have a car I don’t really go anywhere to buy things. In fact, I have been in a slow process of selling and giving away everything I own.”

4. Suleyman Kerimov

Suleyman Kerimov is another example of a mega-rich guy who loves to live life the simple way. He was born in the former USSR, and lived a pretty bleak life prior to the collapse of communism in Russia. He worked at an electrical plant where he was paid only $250 a month. He lived in a worker’s hostel which was attached to the plant with his wife. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, he dabbled in investing, and bought shares in Gazprom. This oil company became hugely successful, and so did Suleyman as a result. He has also been very successful with precious metals mining.

As you can see, Suleyman likes to dress in a pretty simple way. Some regular old jeans and a brown long sleeved shirt is good enough for him, topped off with old, battered baseball cap. He’s seen here cheering at a sporting event, which is probably the Russian soccer team he bought. He’s also pretty active in philanthropy, donating a lot of his money to charity and other initiatives.

3. Reid Hoffman

Here’s another man who might not seem that impressive at first glance, but don’t be fooled – this man is one of the richest guys in the world. With a net worth of about $3 billion dollars, this founder of LinkedIn is living the dream. Reid Hoffman grew up as a pretty average child, although even at age 12 he was very active in the creation of role-playing games that are now successful. He also apparently farmed maple syrup as a boy in high school, and he got his hands dirty with other pursuits. After spending time in college, Hoffman worked for Apple and PayPal before co-founding LinkedIn.

As you can see by his choice of dress, Hoffman does not use his clothing to show off his wealth. He’s a little bit like Mark Zuckerberg in that he usually wears exactly the same thing – a simple polo typically accompanied by some simple khaki pants. Like a lot of people on this list, he also donates a lot to charity and is very active in philanthropy.
