13-Month-Old Develops Strange Swollen Belly, Then Doctors Realize She Needs Immediate Surgery

This emotional video starts out with the words “old soul” because the beautiful little girl you’re about to meet, Beatriz Torres, was called that from the day she was born. She was always happy, always smiling, and continued to grow and learn much faster than most babies.

One day when she was only 13 months old, her mother Lydia and father, Gerardo, noticed that she was acting differently. She was lethargic, not eating normally, and a bit inflamed in her stomach area. However, she was still smiling and acting happy as she had always been.

Thankfully, the parents decided to still go ahead and call their doctor. When they went in, they realized it was good that they followed their instincts because after one test, they saw that beautiful Beatriz’s kidney was taken over by a mass.

Eventually, the mass was discovered to be a cancerous Wilms’ tumor.

The doctors at Valley Children’s Healthcare were able to remove it all, but the journey ahead was not over.

She was going to have to undergo chemotherapy and radiation, all at only 13 months old. Her grandmother, Mary, had already beaten cancer with those two forms of treatment, but she knew how horrible this was about to be for her tiny granddaughter.

So as a family, they came together and tried to stay strong for Beatriz. But this story proves that this little girl’s bright light in her heart carried her through the troubles all on her own.

As of July 2016, beautiful Beatriz is growing and developing healthily and energetically. This will remind you to be thankful for every day that you and your family are alive and healthy!

“No mo chemo” for this beautiful baby girl!
