Five Things You Should Not Do After Being Fired From Your Job

'You are fired' three words every employee dreads. However, with unpredictable job market trends, you can never be sure of your job. You can be fired any time and for reasons you cannot guess. And this applies to employees who are highly qualified or extremely hard working. So, it is imperative to stay prepared for any adversity. Here we give you five things you should be careful about when you are asked to resign.

1.Don't share the news with everyone

To be fired is the toughest experience anybody can go through. So, it is quite but natural for you to feel angry or upset. However, this is when you need to stay calm. Have just one or two people whom you can confide in. These people should be your loved ones or friends you totally trust. Of course it goes without saying that you should not post this on social media.

2.Don't shy away from asking for a reference

Many employers commit this mistake. Desperation, vulnerability and anger confuse them and they avoid asking for a reference. However, you should ask for a reference, especially if you are not asked to leave for bad behaviour or on some legal grounds. May be the company doesn't require the role you are in anymore. In any case, companies are usually more than forthcoming about giving a reference. That's the least they can do for you, so in most cases they will.

3.Don't start applying the very next day

You should not have large gaps in your resume. It is important to start looking out as soon as possible. But at least take few days off and let yourself settle down emotionally. Don't look for jobs when you are still angry or upset. You will be too anxious and would want to prepare your resume and apply online immediately. But take your time.

4.Don't take up any job

The effects of losing a job can be devastating, financially and emotionally. However, that doesn't mean you take up any job that comes your way. Use this time to understand what you really want to do. May be this is an opportunity for you to take that risk you always wanted to. So, look for a job that interests you. Losing a job doesn't mean you take up anything frivolous.

5.Don't badmouth your previous boss

When you are called for a job interview, prepare beforehand of an answer to the obvious question. You will be asked the reason you quit before you found another job or why you were fired. So, think of a reason beforehand. In any case, don't badmouth your previous boss or company. Keep negativity away.
